Notes

This photo contains some great Western details, such as the leather reatas, and the neat trick of tucking a loop of the McCarty into his belt-- why not? You don't need it except when you get off, and when you do, it's right there, not needing to be untied from the saddle. Hackamores for the horses, and probably hair ropes for the reins and McCarty. Nice hat, too.

The memoir of his life covers his Japanese American heritage, the trouble this caused in brushes with internment during World War II, his activities later in life, and his relatively early death in 1962, at age 51.
