Hiking the inner canyon on the Tonto Trail means rounding many drainages and looking for water in each - springs were rare and, in this case, shared with the burros
Mike Quinn DS70, Paul Patterson DS70, and Mike Hunston DS68 view the Inner Gorge. The Tonto Plateau runs just above the Inner Gorge, carved into old granite and metmorphic rocks.
The Tonto Trail stays on the Tonto Plateau, above the Inner Gorge, and in places opens up to surprisingly wide views, considering it is most of the way down into the Grand Canyon
