Hiking the inner canyon on the Tonto Trail means rounding many drainages and looking for water in each - springs were rare and, in this case, shared with the burros

The Tonto Trail stays on the Tonto Plateau, above the Inner Gorge, and in places opens up to surprisingly wide views, considering it is most of the way down into the Grand Canyon
This is more than a year after the 1969 floods, but the canyon bottom was still scoured to bare rock. This waterfall was about 6 feet high and blocked passage for cattle.
