Notes

These images originated from the Holloway family photo collection. Merritt Holloway was the Deep Springs hired cowboy ca. 1949, later Ranch Manager ca. 1969-1979. Merritt's son Tom provided the following notes, which also apply to 17DEC0307 - Photo at pickup - The occasion was heading to Roberts Ranch, late spring 1948. Standing Merritt Holloway, Tipton Holloway, Robert Sandstrum (Merritt's nephew, visiting from LA for a couple of weeks of ranch life), Winona Holloway. Atop cab - Ted Holloway, Tom Holloway. There's a story on the '48 Ford pickup Merritt and Nona had bought it new before coming to DS, but once there could not make the payments. (Family lore is that the monthly payment on the truck was $100, and Dad's cash wage was $80/mo.) Meanwhile, DS needed such a vehicle, so Dad sold his truck to the ranch. But the Holloways needed transportation, so they bought the 1938 Studebaker in the next photo [17DEC0307] from Dean Bonham Campbell. The girl with Merritt in that photo is Patricia Campbell, Bonham's daughter (who was married to Ted Holloway from 1963 to 198-something).
